Wednesday night in Columbus, in double overtime, Lucia Christofano scored the game-winning goal to send Centerville girls lacrosse to its first-ever OHSAA Regional Semifinal. The opponent was Pickerington Central. When the final whistle blew, the Elks had reached a milestone this program has never reached before.
Christofano finished with 81 goals and 58 assists — #1 GWOC in goals, assists, and draw controls simultaneously. She returns next season. Senior Kara Bentley has 132 saves this season, career total now past 400. Coach Katie Ziegert was named GWOC Coach of the Year. Christofano earned GWOC Player of the Year. Five Centerville players on All-GWOC First Team: Bentley, Christofano, Baldridge, Eggert, and Poske.
Next: Wednesday, May 26 · Regional Semifinal · At Dublin Coffman
This is not just any opponent. Worthington Kilbourne began 2026 ranked #1 in the United States by USA Lacrosse Public HS Boys rankings. They currently sit at #2 nationally at 19-4. Their losses came against Upper Arlington (the #1 team in Ohio, 15-10) and one other elite program. They beat Thomas Worthington 18-0 in May.
In 2025, WK reached the OHSAA Division I State Final Four — winning four tournament games including a 7-5 win over Upper Arlington (who had beaten them in the regular season) — before falling to eventual state champion St. Xavier in the state semifinal. This program knows how to win postseason games.
On April 24, Centerville scored 11 goals against the #2 team in the country and lost by one. Swanson had 5G/1A. Dorsten made 18 saves. Willhelm ran the offense with 1G/3A. The Elks had every chance. Tonight they get it again.

| Bryson Sengsy | 0G · 3A | 42 goals on season — must score tonight |

Centerville (20-6, GWOC Champions, USA Today Ohio Super 25) meets Lakota West (16-12, #212 Ohio) tonight. On paper the Elks are heavy favorites. But context matters: last May, these two programs met at the state tournament — and Centerville won 8-1.
Last season's run carried this program to the OHSAA Division I State Championship final at Firestone Stadium — state runner-up. They won the regional, beat their way to the championship game, and fell just short. This team is better. Caitlyn Belcher (So) leads the GWOC in ERA (2.66), wins (18), and RBI. Natalie Carr (Jr) bats .614 with 11 HR — the school single-season record. First round: 10-0 vs Walnut Hills, Belcher 13 strikeouts in 5 innings.
The Elks enter the OHSAA tournament as the #1 ranked Division I baseball program in the state of Ohio. 21-3 overall, 14-0 GWOC — the first team in the conference's current eight-school format to finish conference play undefeated. Ryan Sidwell leads all GWOC pitchers at 0.32 ERA. Next: vs Wayne, at Centerville.
Sectional Champions — Lee won singles, Edwards/Critchfield won doubles, Wooton/Thambi-Pillai 3rd in doubles. Districts underway right now at Mason. Coach Scott Long earned GWOC Coach of the Year in his final season before retirement. Luke Edwards and Declan Wooton were named co-GWOC Athletes of the Year.
Season ended Wednesday night. But this postseason run — coming back from 0-2 sets against #11 Hilliard Davidson on the road, winning three straight including a white-knuckle 16-14 in the fifth — is the kind of moment a program carries forward. Coach Troy Brewer earned GWOC Coach of the Year. The Elks don't blink.
